Kanawha County plans for 'Operation Prom Alive'

Posted: Updated:

Kanawha County law enforcement officers are going to be expanding patrols in strategic locations around the county in the coming weeks. They'll also be attending prom and graduation ceremonies and patrol post-event gatherings.

Operation Graduation Prom Alive is a program that targets people who choose to drive under the influence, illegally uses alcohol, drugs or prescription medication, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office.

A news conference is planned for Thursday at 10 a.m. at Kanawha Metro Communications to kickoff the program, now in its eighth year.

The sheriff's office coordinates the project in partnership with the Kanawha County Commission and county law enforcement agencies.

These extra patrols are made possible by the Kanawha County Commission and funds from the Public Safety Levy in the amount of $15,000.00 to pay officers.
