UPDATE

MTV Network has confirmed the reality TV series 'Buckwild' has been canceled.

Jake Urbanski, MTV Network spokesperson, confirmed the decision Wednesday.

"After careful consideration, MTV will not be moving forward with season two of 'Buckwild' in West Virginia," read a statement from MTV.com.  "We love the cast and the show and this was not an easy decision, but given Shain's tragic passing and essential presence on the show, we felt it was not appropriate to continue without him. Instead, we are working on a meaningful way to pay tribute to his memory on our air and privately."

The cancellation comes after the accidental death of star Shain Gandee, 21. Gandee, an uncle and friend were found dead of carbon monoxide poisoning earlier this month. Investigators believe the deadly gas built up after an SUV the men were in got stuck in a mud pit, covering the tailpipe in mud.

Season one was filmed last year, mostly around Sissonville and Charleston. Shooting of season two was under way before the cancellation was announced.

MTV will be airing a tribute special to celebrate Shain Gandee on Sunday at 8 p.m.  The tribute will be a special titled 'Buckwild: WV to the NYC.'  The special was shot before production began on season two, according to MTV.com.

MTV decided to run the special with the support of Shain Gandee's parents, Dale and Loretta Gandee.  In addition, MTV will air the entire first season of 'Buckwild' on Sunday prior to the tribute special.

ORIGINAL STORY

Entertainment website TMZ is reporting that the hit cable TV series 'Buckwild' has been canceled, according to sources close to the show.

The website reports an official announcement is scheduled to be released Wednesday.

The cancellation follows after recent drug-related arrests were made involving two stars from Buckwild and the recent death of Shain Gandee

On Feb. 11, 'Buckwild' star Salwa Amin was charged with possession with intent to deliver.   While on probation, Amin was re-arrested for failing her first court-ordered drug test.

On Feb. 15, Michael Douglas Burford, also known as "Bluefoot" on the reality show, was arrested for aggravated DUI.

On April 1, Shain Gandee along with his uncle and another passenger were found dead.  Autopsies confirmed the three had died of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Before the first season started, strong criticism came from Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va.

The show profiled nine young adults and their crazy antics in and around Kanawha County, West Virginia.  'Buckwild' first debuted on MTV on Jan. 3.
