UPDATE: Man pleads not guilty to attempted murder, malicious wounding

A Kanawha County, WV man has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from a shooting in April 2013.

Terrance Blanks pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and malicious wounding.  He trial is set for March 2014.



The suspect arrested in an early morning shooting was arraigned today. 

Terrance Blanks was charged with malicious wounding and wanton endangerment and his bond was set at $150,000 cash only.

According to the criminal complaint, officers responded to 510 Kanawha Court in Saint Albans in reference to a shooting.   When officers arrived they found the victim, Jerome James III on the floor of the apartment with multiple gunshot wounds.

When the victim was being loaded into an ambulance, he told police that Blanks was the man who shot him.  Outside of the apartment officers recovered multiple spent firearm casings.

Police say that the neighboring residence was put in substantial risk of death or serious harm created by the shooting.



A man has been arrested and charged in connection with an early morning shooting.

Terrance Blanks, 22, of Institute, has been charged with one count of malicious wounding.  More charges are pending.

The victim, Jerome Lee James III, was shot multiple times by Blanks, investigators said.

Investigators said the men were friends who were fighting over a stolen gun.

They said Blanks went to Brianna Hall's apartment, located on the 500-block of Kanawha Court.  Hall and the victim were inside.

Blanks shot at the window, striking the victim multiple times in the chest and body.

Authorities said they recovered the gun used in the shooting along Kanawha Terrace.

Additional charges are also pending against Hall and the victim after authorities found a stolen vehicle at her apartment.  The car was stolen from Charleston sometime on Monday. They also found stolen guns inside of her apartment, investigators said.  

Investigators are also looking into whether or not Blanks is connected to a weekend shooting in Institute where a man was found shot in the face.

He's being interviewed at the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.

From there, he will be arraigned in front of a magistrate judge.

James is listed as 'under evaluation' at Charleston Area Medical Center.



The victim is in surgery and was shot multiple times, including at least once in the chest.

Dunbar Police pulled over a person of interest and he was taken to Saint Albans Police Department where he is being interviewed now.

A gun was recovered in the area but authorities aren't sure if this weapon is connected to shooting. 



A man and woman were inside a 510 Kanawha Court apartment when gunfire rang out around 4 a.m.

The windows of the apartment were blown out.

Authorities are unsure if gunman fled on foot or in a car, there are conflicting reports. He is still on the run at this hour.

A man was shot at least one time in the chest. Sources tell 13 News that he was in grave condition on his way to hospital. 

The woman who lives in the apartment has been taken to the police department for questioning.

Authorities also found a stolen Cavalier down the street from the crime scene. It was originally stolen from Charleston.  They are looking into whether or not the vehicle is connected to the shooting.

Neighbors tell 13 News this was a nice neighborhood that has "gone down hill" over the years.

The shooting happened right next to a family apartment with children inside.



Dispatchers tell 13 News that one person has been transported after a shooting at an apartment complex in St. Albans.

The shooting was reported just after 4 a.m. Monday morning.

Metro 911 dispatchers say they've received reports that a person was shot multiple times.
