The West Virginia Hardwood Alliance Zone continues to grow.

Organization officials announced the group has grown to nine counties thanks to the recent inclusion of Hardy and Grant counties. The consortium of contiguous counties works to market the use of regional world class hardwood resource sand is dedicated to promoting West Virginia hardwoods to local sawmills and manufacturing sites for business in domestic and foreign export markets.

West Virginia exports $85 million annually in timber and lumber for furniture, housing, engineered wood products and other products such as cabinets. Members promote their products to potential customers at domestic and international trade shows. Upcoming events include shows in Dallas, Las Vegas and Denver. The Hardwood Alliance Zone also will be represented at the Boy Scout Jamboree in July.

Most counties are represented on the Hardwood Alliance Zone Board by their development authority directors or representatives. Hardy County will be represented by Mallie Combs, director of the Hard County Rural Development Authority. Ed Fischer, director of the Grant County Development Authority, will serve as his county's representative to the Hardwood Alliance Zone.
