Marshall University football player arrested Sunday morning

A Marshall University football player was arrested following an incident Sunday morning.

Kevin Grooms, a 20-year-old sophomore at the university was taken into custody Sunday morning.

Grooms is charged with obstruction of or interfering with an officer.  No other details are available about the arrest.

Marshall's athletic department released a statement this morning: "We are aware of Kevin's situation and will handle it appropriately and internally."

Grooms, a sophomore, had a breakout season last fall for the Thundering Herd.  He was named the 2012 Conference USA freshman of the year.  He lead all C-USA freshmen with 737 rushing yards.  Grooms also found the end zone nine times last year.  Eight touchdowns came from rushing while one came from receiving.
