Few leads in brutal beating of man in downtown Charleston

Posted: Updated:

Beaten and left for dead; that's what Charleston Police said happened to one man last week.

With no breaks in the case, police are hoping some new details will encourage someone to come forward.

On April 19, a bystander found a gruesome scene on the 200 block of Capitol Street in downtown Charleston.

John Dolin, 37 of Boone County, had been robbed, beaten unconscious and left for dead, police said.

Dolin is recovering at Charleston Area Medical Center.  His condition has improved since he was first hospitalized five days ago.

Detectives have not been able to question him yet because of his injuries, they said.

Dolin was last seen leaving Sam's Uptown Café just after 2 a.m. on April 19.

His body was found right around the corner in an alleyway later that morning.

As Dolin regains his strength in the hospital, police hope someone will come forward with information.

Investigators said whoever beat and robbed Dolin deserves to be behind bars before they do it again to someone else.
