"Three University of Charleston students have been arrested. The conduct which they are alleged to have committed is deplorable and violates university policies and expectations. They have been evicted from the residence halls, removed from the university's basketball team, and further campus disciplinary actions are in progress. We will continue to cooperate fully with authorities as they continue their investigation."

A University of Charleston basketball player is behind bars in connection with a violent robbery and beating of two men.

Charleston Police have charged Terrell Lipkins, 20, with two counts of first-degree robbery and four counts of fraud by use of a controlled access device.

Police said Lipkins and two other players, Robbie Dreher and Quincy Washington, robbed and beat two guys on the 600 block of Virginia Street East on Sunday night.

The victims told police they were walking when three men attacked them.

They said the men took credit cards and cash from them.

Surveillance video caught the men using the stolen credit card at a McDonald's and 7-Eleven gas station.

University of Charleston President Ed Welch issued this statement: "We are aware a University of Charleston student was arrested on campus yesterday. The University is cooperating with authorities. UC does not condone e illegal or inappropriate behavior and will not tolerate it. We will comment further once more facts become available."

Police are still trying to track down Dreher and Washington.

Call Charleston Police if you have any information at 304-348-6480.

This incident comes just a couple of days after another serious attack that left John Dolin, 37, in the hospital.
