Mary C. Snow Westside Elementary hosts 'Stand Against Racism' event

Posted: Updated:

Mary C. Snow Westside Elementary School hosted its fourth annual event in observance of the YWCA's national "Stand Against Racism" day.

Posters were unveiled by the school's principal, which showed the students posing with various officials, including the Charleston area first responders and the executive director of the YWCA. Each poster includes a quote intended to inspire those who see them to not fall into the traps of racism.

The event was sponsored by the Charleston Police Department. "They talked to us about being different. It's, it doesn't mean anything, because we're all the same," said Sahmya Pates, a third grade student at Mary C. Snow Westside Elementary.

By next week, the posters will be on display at the Charleston City Hall for two weeks. After that, the YWCA will return them to the school so they can be permanently displayed.
