Officers make arrest in Huntington fire

HUNTINGTON, WV -

UPDATE:

A Huntington man is now facing felony arson charges. 

Officers with the Huntington Police Department arrested 35-year-old Shawn King in connection with a late night fire that could be seen for miles Wednesday night. 

According to court documents, King intentionally set fire to an abandoned house located at the intersection of 27th Street and 9th Avenue.  King allegedly told several people he did it.  Another witness stated King stayed in the house and was in the area before the fire started. 

King was arraigned in Cabell County Magistrate Court Thursday morning. 

King faces up to 20 years in prison. He is currently in the Western Regional Jail.

People throughout Huntington said they could see the smoke and flames from a fire on Wednesday night.

It started just before 9 p.m. at an abandoned house near the intersection of 9th Avenue and 27th Street, according to Cabell County 911 dispatchers.

The Huntington Fire Department responded and worked to fight back the flames.

There were no injuries reported.

An investigation into what caused the fire is ongoing.
