Wayne county firefighters say they responded to possible meth lab fire

Posted: Updated:

Several fire departments responded to a house fire on Mill Creek road near Fort Gay.

Fire Chief Joseph Bowen says an anonymous call came just after 2:00 p.m. Thursday saying there was a possible meth lab fire at that residence.

Neighbors say when firefighters heard several explosions at the home, they told them to call 911 for law enforcement.

Haz-mat crews were on scene to decontaminate firefighters from any possible chemical exposure from the fire.

The house was close to neighbors with children, but no one was hurt.

A neighbor says his mom heard dozens of explosions during the fire.

"My mom said there was a lot of them it wasn't simultaneously, it was one after another like take a break," Tyler Sizemore said.

Crews say the house is destroyed so badly they could not determine if there was a meth lab or any chemicals.

The State Fire marshal's office is investigating.
