Record store to open on Charleston's East End

At one point in his life, Sam Lowe realized he was a Led Zeppelin fan.  So, he bought every one of their albums on vinyl.

His passion for records has transformed into a new business. Lowe is the owner of Sullivan's Records on 1588 Washington Street East in Charleston.

"I find that a lot of younger people, they usually haven't even seen a record before," Lowe said. "Sometimes they grew up without even having CDs. They might just have digital music exclusively."

Lowe's selection will offer nearly 5,000 vinyl records, 3,000 CDs, Blu-ray, posters, and DVDS. The genres range from classic rock to underground hip hop. Customers can both buy and sell used music. Lowe said he wanted to fill a niche in Charleston's East End.

"Even in the digital age, there's still this need for people who are really, really into music," Lowe said.

The store's opening will coincide with the annual Old Colony East End Yard Sale, an event that draws thousands of people to Charleston's East End.

"This is a music lover's haven," Lowe said. "I want to turn that into this for the East End."

The store is set to open on Saturday at 8 a.m.
