The contests are set for West Virginia's 150th Birthday Art Contest.

Last month, Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, D-W.Va., encouraged students from around the state to celebrate the West Virginia's sesquicentennial birthday by entering the contest.

The children's work is being judged at the Department of Commerce Offices in South Charleston. Judges said it's interesting to see how the different kids capture the feeling of West Virginia in different ways.

Students were divided into three age groups. Picking winners from those groups is going to be a very difficult task, at least according to one judge. "It's very hard, but I think we are trying to take into consideration the age the talent level and what they can and cant do," said Christina Cameron, a member of the Sesquicentennial Commission.

The contest winners will be announced in June. Winners in each age group will win a Kindle Fire and gift cards for their classrooms. Winning artwork will also be featured at the state's official 150th birthday celebration. That celebration will be June 20 - 23 at the State Capitol in Charleston.
