Some students got to start their summer vacation a little bit early after a water main break on the last day of school.

South Charleston High School and Richmond Elementary let students go home at 8:45 a.m. after a water main break along Chestnut Street on Friday morning.

Homes in the surrounding area were also without water or experiencing low pressure.

Teachers said most of the kids were happy they got to leave but there were a few who were sad.

"We had one break down and cry. He wanted to come in so bad and see his teacher. I think they're a little excited, too," said Kat Miller, fifth grade teacher at Richmond Elementary.

West Virginia American Water fixed the problem just before noon.
