Child struck by car in Huntington taken to hospital

Posted: Updated:

A boy riding his scooter on a busy street in Huntington was hit by a car Tuesday evening.

It happened on Olive Street around 8 p.m.

A man visiting family members says his niece came running into the house screaming that a boy was hit in the street.

The man, who says he is a former Army medic rushed outside to help the boy.

He says the car stopped, then the front tire skidded and ran over the boy's foot.

The man says the boy suffered injuries to his foot and had some scrapes on his legs.

The driver of the car says she was coming up the street when she saw the boy on his scooter look the other way, then dart out in front of her.

The boy was taken by ambulance to a local hospital to be checked out.

Neighbors say people drive at high speeds up and down the narrow street that is home to dozens of children, and something should be done.

Huntington police officers took a statement from the driver and tell 13 News that no charges will be filed.
