700-foot pedestrian span opens at WV scout park

OAK HILL, WV (AP) — Construction of some attractions is still underway, but the Boy Scouts of America is showing off one newly finished feature at the Summit Bechtel Reserve.

Today the group is dedicating a 700-foot pedestrian span named the CONSOL Energy Bridge.

The park near Oak Hill hosts the national Boy Scout Jamboree in less than six weeks, July 15-24.

Since 1981, the Boy Scouts of America has held its annual jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia.

But that required the organization to rebuild and dismantle its structures every four years. Fayette County will now be the jamboree's permanent home.

Thousands of scouts and staff members are expected to attend the jamboree.

The West Virginia Parkways Authority is considering waiving tolls on the West Virginia Turnpike to alleviate congestion.
