PIKEVILLE, Ky. -

A car with eight people in it crashed early Friday morning, killing two of the passengers.

According to a news release, troopers with the Kentucky State Police say Jonathan Newsome, 18, of Teaberry, and Alexandra Tipton, 18, of Harold both died after the car they were in crashed just after 2 a.m.

The condition of the other six passengers is unknown at this time.

Troopers say Newsome was driving the 1999 Ford Mustang south on KY 3501 and was not able to make a turn onto KY 1469 sending his car into an embankment at the intersection of the roads. Troopers say no one in the car was wearing a seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation.
