    Alpha Natural Resources announced July 31 that 11 affiliated coal mines and other facilities in West Virginia could be idled by mid-October, potentially causing 1,100 to be laid off.

Sgt. White with Logan Police Department confirmed that the drowning victim's name is Malcolm Meade.

 



 

UPDATE:

A who was pulled from the Guyandotte River near the AEP plant died at the hospital.

According to witnesses, the man jumped in the river and hit his head and was pulled to shore by a 13-year-old boy.  There was one other person swimming at the time.

The man was taken to the Logan Regional Medical Center and died from his injuries, according to officials with the Logan Fire Dept.

The accident happened about 5:18 p.m.

Man dies after being pulled from Guyandotte River

According to the firefighters with the Logan Fire Dept., a man was rescued from the Guyandotte River.

The extent of the man's injuries isn't known, but he was transported to the hospital for treatment.

He was pulled from the river near the Taco Bell in Logan, WV.
