CHARLESTON -

If you are looking to add a new four legged friend to your family this week the Kanawha Charleston Animals Shelter is hoping you will consider adopting a "West Virginia Brown Dog".

On West Virginia Day  they are celebrating what has been unofficially deemed the state's most popular breed.

Select dogs will be available for a reduced adoption fee Thursday June 22.

Dog lovers coined the term to describes a dog that is a mix of several different breeds.

"It is a Heinz 57 or a pound puppy or just your all American mutt," explained Chelsea Staley, with the Kanawha Charleston Animal Shelter. "It doesn't have to be brown, just a mixed breed."

The cost will be $50 for female dogs and $40 for male dogs.
