CHARLESTON -

A group of volunteers are spending their summer trying to make life better for dogs at the Kanawha Charleston Animal Shelter by making sure there is a bed in each kennel.

The effort is being called Operation Puppy Love.

Wednesday they brought a sample bed in to test it out.

They are collecting money to buy more. Project leaders said they'll need at least 120.

The goal is to purchase them all and have them in the cages by August.

"We want to get the beds bought and put in the kennels so the dogs can be up off that hard cold  floor," said Karen Messinger, with Operation Puppy Love.

If you would like to help buy a bed you can call the Kanawha Charleston Animal Shelter at 304-342-1576.
