LEWISBURG, WV -

David Nalker of Lewisburg has been elected to a two-year term as chairman of the Board of Governors of New River Community and Technical College. The election took place at the June 6 meeting of the Board of Governors in Beckley.

Nalker replaces Leslie Baker of Beckley, who has served two consecutive terms and therefore is not eligible to serve another term as chair. She was elected vice chair. Debbie Hill of Summersville was elected secretary.

Two new board members were sworn in at the meeting. Tim Hofmann, instructor of biology at the Greenbrier Valley campus in Lewisburg, was elected to serve a two-year term as faculty representative. Justin Rader, a student on the Nicholas County campus in Summersville, was elected to serve a one-year term as the student representative. Susie Atkins, an administrative assistant in the Office of Finance and Administration in Beckley, was re-elected to a two-year term as classified staff representative.

The board presented resolutions of appreciation to outgoing faculty representative John Mark Walkup, professor of music on the Nicholas County campus, and outgoing student representative Xavier Strain II from the Mercer County campus in Princeton.

Other board members are Robert Farley of Princeton, Edward Knight III of Lewisburg, Marilyn Leftwich of White Sulphur Springs, Al Martine of Daniels and E.T. Smith of Princeton.

New River Community and Technical College is part of the West Virginia Community and Technical College System. It serves nine counties in southeastern West Virginia from five locations: Mercer County campus (Princeton), Nicholas County campus (Summersville), Beckley campus, Greenbrier Valley campus (Lewisburg) and the Advanced Technology Center (Ghent).
