SUTTON, WV (AP) -

A swimming area at Sutton Lake is closed because of an algal bloom.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said Sunday that a toxin produced by the blue-green algae bloom can be harmful to health.

The corps says the swimming area at the lake's south abutment is closed. Posters cautioning boaters and swimmers about the bloom's potential health risks have been posted at all access points to the lake.

Water quality is being monitored. Park rangers also are patrolling the lake by boat to look for signs of algal bloom.
