People around Kanawha County will hear a very loud siren during the lunch hour on Wednesday.

The Kanawha County Outdoor Warning Sirens will be tested Wednesday, June 26, at noon. The test is part of the monthly Outdoor Warning Siren test, which includes the 17 new modular sirens.

The sirens will allow for emergency officials to target populations and deliver specific messages.

The sirens are activated in the event of chemical manufacturing incidents, hazardous material transportation accidents and natural (weather) disasters.  Nearly one-half of these sirens are capable of producing an intense warning signal, live and digital voice.

Should you hear the outdoor warning sirens at any time other than noon the fourth Wednesday of the month, go indoors and turn on the radio and or TV for further information.
