'Power Up The Pantry' brings in donations for Mountain Mission

Posted: Updated:

Appalachian Power, the Kanawha County Commission and West Virginia American Water joined forces on Wednesday to host "Power Up the Pantry" in Charleston.

The donation drive benefits Mountain Mission. The annual effort started last year after area food banks experienced critical shortages of food and other items following several severe storms.

From 7:30 a.m. to about 1 p.m., people dropped off non-perishable food items, baby items such as diapers, wipes and formula and cash donations at the

Mountain Mission truck that was parked alongside the 400 block of Virginia Street in front of the Kanawha County Courthouse.

The donation continued into the evening at Appalachian Power Park, where donations were collected at each gate before the game between the West Virginia Power and the Hagerstown Suns. A portion of all online ticket sales were to be donated to Mountain Mission.
