CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (AP) — More than 1,900 road signs are being replaced along U.S. 50 between Parkersburg and Interstate 79.

Department of Transportation spokesman Brent Walker tells The Exponent Telegram  that every sign is being replaced. That includes speed limit, yield and road signs.

Walker says the signs lose their reflectivity over time and need to be replaced every 15 to 20 years.

The project began last fall. It's expected to be completed by the end of fall 2013.

Next year, the department will begin planning to replace signs along Interstate 81 in the Eastern Panhandle.
