Huntington fire and police were called to the scene of an accident leaving a car hanging dangerously over a busy roadway.

It happened just before 11 p.m. Monday on Honeysuckle road.

Firefighters say it appears the car was going down the road when it struck a power pole, and caught on fire leaving it teetering over Fifth Street Hill road.

The accident also knocked down power lines.

Firefighters searched the area, but no one was found.

Police closed the road until the car was pulled safely up the hill.

They say things could have been much worse.

"If the car continued off of Fifth Street Hill, you've got everybody coming up and down that road, and it could have been a major incident over there" Deputy Chief Brian Grieco said.

Tow crews pulled the car safely onto the road.

Firefighters say they think whoever was driving could have gotten out and left the scene.

The accident is under investigation.
