A man was arrested after attempting to make meth near Riverside High School, according to State Police.

Troopers said they found Ronnie Lee Thomas, Jr., 29, of Rand, in the wooded area between Riverside High School and Midland Trail Elementary School.

Police said Thomas' pregnant girlfriend was with him.

Troopers said they spotted a green Ford Explorer near the school early Thursday morning. They stopped to make sure the vehicle wasn't broken down.  Police walked to the bottom of the hill and approached Thomas, who was directly behind the football field. Troopers said the man was trying to cook meth in a bottle.

Thomas will be charged with attempting to operate a meth lab, unlawful possession of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, and possession of sudafedrin in an altered state.

Troopers said they will submit the pregnant woman's information to Kanawha County prosecutors, who will then consider whether to give her information to the grand jury for possible indictment.
