ST. ALBANS -

Volunteers at a church in St. Albans worked for days to prepare a breakfast feast in honor of Independence Day.

More than 300 people attended St. Andrew United Methodist Church to eat a free meal including more than 22 dozen eggs, 50 pounds of ham and 70 pounds of potatoes.

It started as a meal for a Sunday School class at a church member's home but then grew into a annual tradition.

"It is a huge meal," said volunteer Kay Craig. "They cook for days to make it ready and the men do it and they are all from 70 to 85 years old".

The United Methodist Men's group and the Crusaders Sunday School Class organize the event.

The left over food and drinks were donated to Christ's Kitchen, an organization that helps feed the homeless in the community.
