WELCH -

The Welch Detachment of the West Virginia State Police told 59News that they have located the mother of two babies who were reportedly abandoned on a doorstep in Mingo County.

According to Sgt. McCarty, the mother of the children is in good health.  Her name is not being released at this time.  The mother is cooperating with police and apparently told troopers that she knew that the children would have a better chance if she left them at the hospital.

The investigation into the incident is still open and is being handled by the McDowell County Sheriff's Office and the McDowell County Child Protective Services.  State Police said that there are no criminal charges pending in the case.
