A Charleston man is recovering in the hospital after a brutal beating over the weekend.

Charleston police arrested Joshua Jerome Blanchett, 31, in connection with the attack.

Police said Blanchett used brass knuckles when he beat Marvin Gillespie on Iowa Street Saturday afternoon.

The attack left Gillespie partially blind with serious injuries to his face.

Police said Blanchett claimed he didn't know the man he is accused of attacking.

He was originally taken to Charleston Area Medical Center before being transferred Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

Blanchett is facing several charges including malicious wounding and being a fugitive from justice.

He's in the South Central Regional Jail with bail set at $50,000.
