An inventor from Cross Lanes, WV has received a gold medal for his invention.

Steven Melek won gold in the Kitchen Category for his Microwave Safe Plate Skate. It's a plastic apparatus that would attach to various-sized glass plates and dishes, preventing burns and acting as a table friendly hotplate.

INPEX 2013 is America's largest invention trade show. It was held June 19-21, at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, Pa., and featured more than 300 inventors. Inventors had the opportunity to pitch their products to a variety of companies.

Medals and awards were given out in more than 40 categories. The inventions recognized ran the gamut from concept to finished product. Awards were presented in categories ranging from advertising to toys and games as well as special awards from corporations and individuals. An international jury judges each of the inventions, and selects a winner in each category.
