Dr. Joseph Cain, a veterinarian who is the fourth generation to operate his 500-plus acre farm in Big Bend, will be given the Farming Heritage Award next month.

The eight annual Farming Heritage Award is presented by the West Virginia Farm Bureau and the West Virginia State Fair. It is given to "a worthy family who demonstrates a commitment to a rural lifestyle and involvement in their community and serves as a role model to others in the state of West Virginia," according to a news release from the West Virginia Farm Bureau.

Cain will be honored with the award during Governor's Day at the 2013 State Fair of West Virginia in Farlea. Cain will be presented with an award, and he also will be treated to a day at the fair, with overnight accommodations and free parking.

The WVFB was founded in 1919 and has more than 24,000 members. Visit wvfarm.org for details.
