Storms bring more flooding and power outages; forcing Nitro Walmart to close

Posted: Updated:

Storms knocked out power to more than 1,000 customers in several counties on Friday evening.

A lack of electricity forced the Walmart in Nitro to close. There was no estimate when the store would reopen. More than 1,100 customers were without power in Kanawha County. Additional outages were reported in Cabell, Putnam, Wayne and Mason County.

High water was reported in some sections of Kanawha County, including Sissonville Drive and Valley Brooke Drive.

Mason County also saw isolated flash flooding.

"Heavy rains from thunderstorms have caused flash flooding across parts of the Tri-state. We're watching creeks and streams rise as the storms move east," said StormTracker 13 Meteorologist Kristin Ketchell.
