WV State University offers free tennis camp

Posted: Updated:

Summer vacation is winding down for many children in Kanawha County but it isn't stopping dozens from taking a swing at learning a new sport.

West Virginia State University is teaching kids to play tennis July 22-25, and it's all for free.

WVSU's tennis coach believes that it's a way for the school to give back to the community for all the support it has received. A total of 61 kids signed up for the camp. "Instead of sitting down and playing video games like my brother, you get to just have fun and be active," said Jalya Outlaw from South Charleston.

Volunteers are on hand to help teach the game. Guest speakers are also coming in to talk with campers about the game.

The free camp runs through Thursday, July 25, at West Virginia State University.
