POINT PLEASANT, West Virginia -

It has been 100 years since the post office in Point Pleasant first opened its doors. As a result, the United States Postal Service announced Tuesday it plans to celebrate the momentous occasion this Saturday, July 27.

Everyone is invited to join the special event being held at the post office on Main Street at 1 p.m.

There will be a temporary Centennial Postal Station set up there.  Refreshments and music will be part of the town celebrations.

According to a recent news release, the Point Pleasant Post Office was established on February 28, 1805.  John Rouch was the first Postmaster.  The cornerstone for the current building was laid on April 19, 1912.  The building was completed in 1913 at a cost of approximately $112,500.
