A West Virginia resident has died after he was burned in the July 7 Antero Resources gas wellpad explosion in Doddridge County.

Tommy Paxton, 45, of Walton, W.Va., died the morning of July 23 in the burn unit of West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office.

Paxton was flown there with four other workers after the explosion near New Milton in Doddridge County.

The five workers were said at the time to work for three contractors: Nabors Completion and Production Service, C and R Downhole Drilling and Willowbend Investments Inc.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident. Antero has said it has hired two independent companies to determine the cause of the explosion.

The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection issued a cease operations order on July 12 and also ordered the company to submit a report by July 31 that demonstrates a knowledge and understanding of the cause of the incident.
