Lincoln County toddler nearly drowns in bathtub; father charged

West Virginia State Police troopers arrested a father after his two-year-old daughter nearly died in a bathtub earlier this month in Lincoln County.

Jason Riffe, of Hamlin, left his two-year-old in a bathtub for an extended period of time, according to Tfc. Brian Hammontree. The girl almost drowned and was treated at Cabell-Huntington Hospital for serious injuries. She was put on life support but has since been released from the hospital.

Cpl. Bartram and Tfc. Miller located Riffe and arrested him on a warrant Wednesday.

Riffe told officers the girl fell into the bathtub while he was bathing her.

Police said the girl's injuries are inconsistent with the story the father told officers.

Riffe is known to have issues with drugs, according to police.

Troopers continue to investigate the situation.

The girl is now in the care of Child Protective Services.

Riffe is being held at Western Regional Jail on $40,000 bond.
