Jared Myers is 16-years-old and was sitting beside his best friend when he passed away early Friday morning.

"Don't drink and drive," he said.  "Don't do it.  It's not worth it."

Myers said the choices he made before getting into a car with four of his best friends changed all of their lives forever.

They were on their way to McDonalds, passing through Glasgow in eastern Kanawha County.

Myers said he looked down at his phone, and that's when the car they were in slid off of the road and began to flip.

"We slid into someone's yard and demolished it," said Myers.

He said the car came to a stop.

He recalled the experience.  "Then I tried to get the door open, but I didn't want to touch him because I didn't know what was wrong with him.  There was blood all over me from Colin.  He was laying on Alex [another passenger] too.  Alex looked over and asked him if he was okay and he said no, and just died."

Colin Qualls, 16, of Glasgow, a Riverside High School student, lover of sports, brother, son, and friend, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Myers said, "I just hope his parents aren't mad at me, because they just went through another death."

Collins father, Charlie Qualls, was a member of the Glasgow Fire Department.

Qualls drove a coal truck and got into an accident while driving home from work in late December of 2010.

He was killed instantly.

Fire Chief, Marty Blankenship is a close friends of the family.  He spoke with Charlie's wife, Colin's mother, on both occasions.

Blankenship said, "It wasn't too long ago that we had the conversation about Charlie, and then we had the conversation about her son, Colin.  It's really hard to do."

Myers said he has regrets.  "I could have told him to slow down and I didn't.  We could have went to my house.  I could have stopped this whole thing."

West Virginia State Police told 13 News that alcohol and speed did play a factor in the crash.

They said 18-year-old Dustin Burkhardt was driving the car, and charges are expected to be filed.

There will be a candle light vigil for Colin Qualls on Monday at 7 p.m. at Riverside High School.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, also at Riverside.

On August 10,  there will be a car show held at the school.  All proceeds will go to the Qualls family.
