ALUM CREEK, WV -

Southern West Virginia Health System, a Lincoln Primary Care Center company, officially opened its first Kanawha County facility July 26.

The new, 15,900 square-foot facility is located in South Charleston near Alum Creek. It was aided by $3m478,347 in funds from an Affordable Care Act Development grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration.

Southern West Virginia Health System – Sand Plant will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and it will serve members of the community on a walk-in basis as well as by appointment.

The new center will offer family medicine care, urgent care, women's health services, x-ray services and laboratory services. It also will feature a retail pharmacy with a drive-through window.

"We are pleased about becoming a part of the Kanawha County community," Lincoln Primary Care Center and Southern West Virginia Health System CEO Brian Crist said in a news release. "Southern West Virginia Health System – Sand Plant represents an important step in our goal of improving access to quality, affordable health care to the people of South Charleston and beyond."

According to the news release, the new facility will use the medical home model of care to focus on full-service preventative and primary care designed around each patient's needs. It will serve patients of all ages.

Lincoln Primary Care Center and Southern West Virginia Health System network will be hiring patient navigators in the fall of 2013 to support the affordable care act legislation that becomes effective in 2014.
