Suspect's relative in Jackson, OH abduction speaks out

Posted: Updated:

Oak Hill, Ohio is a quiet place. A remote town nestled miles away from any big city hustle.

It's also where Zachary Dunn, 30, grew up.

Dunn is accused of abducting 6-year-old Macey Stewart from her home in Jackson on Friday.

Dunn was apprehended from a residence on State Route 776 at about 8 p.m. Friday, according to police. He was charged after midnight Saturday.

Larry Dunn said more than anything else, he's disappointed.

"I didn't think Zach would do anything like that," said Larry, Zachary's uncle. "I don't know anyone who would do anything like that really. That's bad, I mean real bad."

Other relatives who wished to remain anonymous said they haven't seen Zachary in years.

Larry also agreed that Zachary, who was one of four brothers, grew distant as an adult.

"He was a good kid," said Larry, 75. "But when he got older, they got wild. He was drinking, wouldn't pay his bills."

Several family members said the death of Zachary's father marred his adolescence, shaping the path of his adulthood.

"He got in a crowd of dopies and he liked to drink and fight," said the retired contractor. Larry said he was unsure whether Zachary is a drug addict.

If the accusations against Zachary are true, Larry said he hopes the young man pays for it.

"I hope he gets what he deserves," he said. "And pretty bad."

13NEWS delved into Dunn's criminal record. According to court documents, Dunn faced charges of disorderly intoxication in 2011; disorderly conduct in 2002; and theft in 2001.

Zachary Dunn was taken to Jackson County Correctional Facility on $50,000. He will appear in Jackson County Magistrate Court Tuesday.

Larry Dunn previously identified himself as Zachary Dunn's grandfather. 13NEWS has confirmed Dunn is actually Zachary's uncle.
