Changes made after Logan County residents voice concerns over Route 10 detour

Posted: Updated:

A section of WV Route 10 was shut down in Logan County after rock slides near a construction site made the area unstable.

The West Virginia Division of Highways has said the road could be closed through October. Since the announcement was made, people who have to take the detour have been speaking up concerns. A meeting was held Tuesday in Logan County for those who have to drive the Rum Creek Road detour. It was held at the Man High School little theater.

State officials announced during the meeting that a few changes will take place. Crews will now be working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so the original route can reopen sooner than expected. Additionally, guard rails and signage are being added to the alternative route. Authorities are also stationing an additional ambulance on the Man side of the detour.

The Logan County Sheriff's Department was also on hand to remind people that they will be stepping up patrols to make sure everyone is following the speed limits. It's 35 mph on Rum Creek and 25 mph during certain sections of the detour.
