PAX, WV (AP) — A longtime miner killed in the Upper Big Branch mine explosion in April 2010 is being honored with a bridge in his name.

A ceremony naming the bridge on Fayette County Route 23 was held Friday in Pax in honor of Rex Lane Mullins. The 50-year-old was among the 29 miners who died in the mine disaster.

According to a resolution adopted by the Legislature adopted during the 2013 session, Mullins was a lifelong resident of Pax and worked in the mines for 30 years. He also was a grade school basketball coach, an avid local sports supporter and active in his community.
