Boil water notice has been issued for parts of Putnam County

Posted: Updated:

West Virginia American Water has issued a precautionary boil water notice for several streets in Liberty, Red House, Putnam Union, and Derricks Creek Areas after a main has ruptured in that area. This advisory affects about 1500 customers along Route 34 from Manilla Creek Road to Fisher's Ridge Road, Mt. Etna Road, Scott Ridge Road, Crooked Ridge Road, Derrick's Creek Road from Route 34 to Box 16991 and Fisher's Ridge Road.

Once service is restored, affected customers should boil their water before consumption. Boiling water kills bacteria and other organisms that may be present in water. Customers are asked to bring water use for drinking, cooking, bathing, showering and brushing teeth to a full boil for a minimum of one minute, then cool before use.

West Virginia American Water will be collecting additional water quality samples in the area of the outage once the system is restored. For more information, contact West Virginia American Water's customer service center at 1-800-685-8660.
