Captain Jeremy Mullins said his 15 years of service West Virginia Air National Guard came in handy when a truck, carrying 11 people, flipped over in front of his house early Wednesday morning.

"We go through these scenarios with casualty collection and prioritizing; I'm not in medical but this is just the training we receive.," he said.

Mullins said there were bodies everywhere. He said he had to stay calm to keep the victims calm.

"We had two that were really bad, immobilized, didn't want them to move at all. We had one head trauma that he needed to sit down; two broken arms, one guy had trouble breathing. It was mainly just to get him stabilized, not to move until the ambulances got here," he said.

Mullins said there was a similar accident like this one in front of his house last winter.

He said his military background let him assess this situation with a clear head; he was able to not only call 911, but prioritize the injuries so EMS knew what they were getting themselves into once they arrived.

"You just try to help the ones that you can. There was nothing I could do about the one. There was no way I could move the vehicle. You had to have a crane to move it off of her."

State Police said Kara Conley, 17, lost her life when the truck she was riding in flipped over on Route 36 in Clay County.  Conley was riding in the back of the truck, troopers said.

The other 10 victims were taken to area hospitals.  Troopers are looking into whether or not speed, drugs, or alcohol played a role in the crash.

Troopers recovered a small amount of marijuana from the scene.
