Members of the WV Board of Education approved a new policy on hiring practices.

Policy 5000 gives educators a bigger place in hiring.  The policy was out for public comment for 30 days and received hundreds of responses.  After considering the responses, the Board approved the new policy.

The policy gives schools the option to create a Faculty Senate recommendation process.  Teachers on the Faculty Senate Committee would review applicants and make recommendations to the principal and superintendent.

The policy also allows the committee to determine what qualities are most important for individual schools.

Every teacher would have the opportunity to take training to qualify for a place on the committee.
