CHARLESTON, WV (AP) — Nine small businesses in West Virginia have received nearly $232,000 in federal grants to help reduce their energy consumption and costs and use renewable energy sources in their operations.

The funding announced Thursday is through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Energy for America Program.

Agriculture officials announced more than $21 million in funding for 631 projects nationwide.

In West Virginia, Caperton Furnitureworks of Berkeley Springs will receive $75,000 for energy improvements. The manufacturer is owned by Gat Caperton, son of former Gov. Gaston Caperton.

Among other businesses receiving grants are the Mountaineer Stairworks at Capon Bridge and the Big Bear Lake Campground in Bruceton Mills.
