"Pellet bandit" charged in connection with Charleston vandalism

Clay Deshawn Matheny, 18, of Charleston has been arrested in connection with a rash of vandalism in the South Hills area of Charleston.

According to court documents, the crimes were committed on the night of August 2, into the early morning hours of August 3.

Charleston police say Matheny and a juvenile were driving around South Hills.  Court documents say Matheny was driving the vehicle. 

Police say the passenger told them that Matheny was shooting a pellet gun and windows of parked vehicles. 

Court documents say the collective damage from 14 different victims makes the crimes a felony.

The juvenile passenger told police Matheny was under the influence of marijuana, xanax, and klonopin as the crimes were being committed.

The passenger also told police that Matheny was shooting the cars as he was driving, and was laughing after each shot.

Matheny is charged with felony destruction of property. 

He is being held at South central Regional Jail on a $25,000 cash only bond.
