Georgia, Colorado agree to recognize WV concealed handgun permits

Two states recently agreed to recognize West Virginia concealed handgun permits, according to a news release from the Office of Attorney General Patrick Morrisey.

The state recently reached agreements with the states of Georgia and Colorado that allows both states to recognize W.Va. concealed carry permits. The agreement also allows W.Va. to recognize similar permits issued in those states, officials said.

A new law also went into effect in Alabama earlier this month that recognizes all out-of-state concealed handgun permits, according to the news release. Now, W.Va. is in the process of securing full reciprocity with Alabama so that W.Va. can recognize Alabama residents' handgun permits as well.

"This is great news for West Virginia handgun owners because it means residents with concealed carry permits can legally travel to any state south of here and be confident their license will be recognized," Morrisey said. "Considering how many of our residents travel to the beaches of South Carolina, Georgia and Florida, this is a great step forward for our state. In addition, people traveling west have one more state in which their licenses will be recognized."

Officials said 27 states now have full reciprocity agreements with W.Va.
