Another attempted abduction reported in Kenova

Kenova police are investigating another report of an attempted abduction.

Police Chief Ray Mossman issued a news release on Thursday evening. It stated that at noon on Thursday, a 17-year-old female reported an Hispanic man with a light mustache was driving a white, Kia-type jeep vehicle with a gold stripe along the bottom. She told police that the he stopped in the 700 block of 18th Street. At that point, the man said "Hey, come here, get down here now." She said "No" and the man told her one more time to get in the car. She ran to her uncle's residence in the 1900 block of Sycamore Street.

The teen then told police that the vehicle stopped on the street and the man inside stared at her. The vehicle then went down the street, made a u-turn and came back up the street toward her. She said the man started to get out of the vehicle, and it was at that point she really became scared and ran home.

Once the police were contacted, an investigator interviewed the teen and put a description of the vehicle and driver. The vehicle was not located.

The Kenova Police Department stated in its news release, "We do not believe this to be related in any way to the previous attempted kidnapping incident from last week."

Chief Mossman is urging parents to continue being vigilant. "Children in the community have been advised by their parents to avoid strangers and even the most innocent contact such as asking for directions will alarm the children and most likely result in the police being called," said Mossman.
