The Maryland-based American Advertising Federation of Greater Frederick has honored Sandy Sponaugle as its Professional of the Year.

The honor came during the organization's recent annual Maven Awards that recognizes outstanding business professionals in advertising, marketing and related fields.

Sponaugle is the founder and CEO of Platinum PR, a public relations firm with offices in Shepherdstown and Frederick, Md. A native of Great Falls, Va., she earned her bachelor's degree in economics and business administration from Shepherd University.

Before launching Platinum PR more than 10 years ago, she worked as a research associate for the Jefferson County Development Authority and then as a business development specialist at the Frederick County Office of Economic Development in Maryland. Now she works as a marketing consultant, spokeswoman, publicity expert, public speaker with clients from the education, retail, hospitality, economic development, tourism and other industries.
