HUNTINGTON, WV -

A former trooper with the West Virginia State Police has been indicted by a Cabell County Grand Jury.

Stephen Spencer Gula was indicted on first degree arson charges for the March 15 fire at his mobile home on Cyrus Creek Road.  The indictment also states he convinced two men, Kenneth Luke Holden II and Donovan Shane Smith to help with the fire.

Gula was not a trooper at the time the alleged arson happened, according to a statement issued by the State Police.  Gula was only employed with the West Virginia State Police for a little over a year and resigned just weeks before the fire.

Holden and Smith were charged back in May.

Sgt. G.N. Losh, commander of the Huntington detachment, said the situation is disappointing. "It's disheartening to have even been associated with him at one time."

All three are due in court Monday morning.
